Default My CDR24 Died

I understand that this is a chronic problem with this radio. I need to replace it with the same thing or one that will last longer. Nothing fancy, just a stinking radio that works. Any suggestions? My friend replaced his CDR24, while it was still working, couldn't sell it for $35 and threw it away. Timing is everything....

What symptoms did you have before it died? Mine goes static with the radio on intermittently, but is fine with an aux input or CD.

The radio suddenly came back to life! It must be Lucas electronics. I guess Porsche found some old MG parts and put them in my Cayman.

If you find alternatives to this radio, please let me know. I "think" that you can replace it with the video screen unit that has map information.

Hey Jim , Are you still active in SRF ?

We may have raced together , I've had 4 different SR / SRF cars , I usually made it to Hallett or Memphis every few years and a bunch of the MW guys came down for our Double @ TWS

They closed the local track and it was kind of doubtful if it would re-open, so I put a top dollar price on the SRF and sold it. I might buy another one some day, now that the local track has been sold and is active. I never raced at Hallet or Memphis, but I had planned to.

My radio went out on my car as well. Had it replaced under warranty thankfully. It would randomly turn off and on while I was driving, and it wouldn't read or spit out CDs once I inserted them.

Looking for advice with my CDR24 in 08 cayman. Reconnected the battery. The head unit functions fine, but no sound. Checked the fuses. No opportunity to enter a code. Any suggestions for next steps?

Default CDR24 (2006 Cayman S)

The sound just stopped working in my car. The display works for both radio and CD but just no sound.

I took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything and said that I may need a new system and to take it to an auto sound specialist.

I took the car there and the guy says I need a new amp then later says I need a new radio since it keeps saying "PROTECT." He says I just can't buy a new amp as it won't work, I need to buy both radio and amp together. Is this true?

Could I just grab one of those used CDR24s on ebay and replace that? Although, I really don't know the true problem, if it's the AMP or the radio. I'm willing to try AMP first as I believe it might be less expensive.

Do I really need to replace the whole system?

These things seem to have a short lifespan. If you buy a used one, I wouldn't spend a whole lot on it because you don't know when that one might die as well.
