Default Gundo Hack Possible for 987?

A lot of 997 and 996 owners do the Gundo hack on their mufflers. can this done on the 987 mufflers?

Not from what I understand. Totally different exhaust on the 987. In fact, I just swapped my stock exhaust on my 05 Boxster S with Fabspeed's Maxflow exhaust. Love it.

carnewal modifies the stock 987 exhausts. Not nearly as cheap as doing the gundo on a 997.

I know about the Carnewal, but was hoping you could do something similar to the gundo

That is how i felt about that too. I am just being cheap and don't want to spend the money on a full aftermarket exhaust.

I bought a tubi for the same reason too .. but people say this hack sounds just like a PSE and no drone issues to worry about too. again this is not a first hand review. may be some body might chirp in.

about being reversible, 987 stock mufflers are easily/cheaply available on ebay to lay hands on one in case you mess up with gundo or this hack . so not too bad an option, if not big on the budget at the moment.

I've just done a Carnewal equivalent locally as well as a gundo hack with a 2 inch pipe on my 2010 Cayman S. Definitely more sound and I think there is now a bit of drone at the low 2000 range. I'm also thinking that I've lost a bit of low end torque. It's not been more than 200 km since the mod and I'm not wot most of the time so maybe the ecu has yet to relearn?

I know of someone who has done this on his boxster as well and he loves it.

What you need is a set of 200 cat cell headers combined with your PSE system. It sounds stock with the valves closed and really good opened up !!!

Noted Gert. Had to try this first for a variety of reasons.

How does one do a "gundo hack" on a mid-engine exhaust system? The routing of the exhaust pipes into and out of the mufflers is completely different than the routing for rear-engine cars where the Gundo bypass originated. In other words, which exhaust pipes did you bridge or bypass?

That's been my experience and also the opinion of everyone who's commented on it.

Hi, I won't be able to answer that. Not mechanically inclined. I just sent it to the same guy who did a boxster. I was told the cats were left untouched so as not to trigger the Cel and some of the insides of the muffler were removed in addition to a 2 inch pipe added. I may have used the terms Carnewal and gundo liberally but that's what comes to mind.
