Default How much deposit did you pay for ordering your Porsche?

About to place an order for my first Porsche and was wondering how the typical process works. My local dealer said they require a $5K deposit, but that sounds a bit insane considering the $500 deposit that BMW dealerships require. Is it really $5K across the board? How much of a deposit did you pay and what's the lowest you've seen a Porsche dealership take for placing an order?

Thanks in advance!

Have you thought about contacting another Porsche dealer, out of curiosity, if nothing else?

Just looking for an idea of what people paid.

5K is what our dealer asked for when we custom ordered our Spyder.

My dealer asked for $2,000, we settled on $1,000.

$5k.

But it all depends on the sell-ability of the options.

I was wondering about this. Specifically if someone ordered a PTS in pink would the dealer ask for a significant deposit and would they have the right to keep the deposit if the seller backed out?

It really depends on how likely they think it is that they might get stuck with the car. That depends on options, etc.

On my PGTS, they asked for $5k, but they never actually charged me for it.

What does that mean? They asked, but you never followed through with the deposit?

I didn't have my checkbook with me, so I gave him a credit card. He took a copy of it and that was good enough, I guess. They never actually charged the card.

Good faith deposit. You might see that for repeat, VIP customers, that the dealer know personally, so they know they are good for it. Dealers can write down the credit card number, or hold on to the check and not cash it, so not to tie up their customers money for months.

And the saleability of the car.

On my Cayman R, the deposit was initially $1000. When the the MSRP exceeded $80K, the dealer asked for a 'non-refundable deposit' for the amount over the $80K. They claimed that it was hard to sell Caymans over $80K and wanted to protect themselves in case I tried to bail out.

The car was not pink.
