Default 2007 Cayman S: Dead key fob?

Hi,

I just purchased a 2007 Cayman S. I was given two key fobs. One works and the other doesn't. I replaced the battery in the fob and it still seems dead.

Is there anything else I can check out before heading back to the dealership?

Thanks!

You can try sticking the key in the ignition, turning it to the "on" position, and pressing either the lock or unlock button. Sometimes that will reinitialize the remote.

Thanks man. I just tried that - no dice.

The key *does* still start the car. I didn't know if the fob portion of the key was required for the car to start. If it *is* part of the ignition process then the fob is working. If not... I think it is dead.

The fob portion is required to be there to start the car, but just for the RF signal for the immobilizer. It will still work even if the remote buttons aren't programmed or if the battery is dead. It sounds like you need to get the remote reprogrammed.

Thanks man. The car goes in for its 40K miles service next week. I'll have them take a look at the fob.
