Default 2009 Boxster 2.9L upgrades?

I have had my 2000 Boxster for several years, and I have had a ton of fun in it. I just bought a 2009 Boxster, and the old one is for sale. The 2009 is the first year with the 9A1 engine rated to 255HP @ 7200rpm, and I was wondering if any of you guys have any experience or can recomend a supplier for an upgraded ECU flash.
Also, the exhaust is way too quiet. For my 2000 Boxster I got a nice exhaust on eBay (probably Chinese) for around $300, and the sound is amazing. Maybe no HP increase, but that is not the point. I haven't seen any exhaust specifically for the 987.2, will the 987.1 exhaust mufflers (not the headers) fit on a 987.2?
The 2009 came with 17" wheels that looks too small for the car. On my 2000 I have 18" (8"+10") with 235/40-18 and 285/30-18, are the 987.2 rim offsets the same as the 986? Would my 986 18" wheels fit my 987.2?
Hope for some good answers!

I have the same engine in my 2011 Cayman with PDK. I highly recommend the Carnewal GT Exhaust from Cantrell Motorsports in Washington, about $700 after core exchange. Sounds very much like the Porsche Sports Exhaust, at a fraction of the price. Later this week, my dealer is installing the Porsche Sport Mode Software upgrade, which basically gives you Sport Chrono without the dash timer clock. That's about $1500 installed.

Hope that helps.

The .1 exhaust is different from the .2, unfortunately. The chassis between the 986 and 987 is a fair amount different, and the wheels would probably not look correct. I would look for a used set in the FS section, you might have some luck.

Fly911 - How much faster does the 09 feel compared to the 00?? Have more pull in all gears? Would love to hear your impressions between the two. Thanks.

Many aftermarket 987.1 exhausts will fit a 987.2. You'll have to research this for each exhaust. Fabspeed Race does fit, but you'll need a new inlet pipe if you (general, not OP) have one on a 987.1. I know this because I have a Fabspeed Race on a 987.1 and am about to put it on a 987.2 (and checked with Fabspeed).

I could be wrong, but IIRC your 18" wheels will fit a 987.2.

98Boxster, the 2000 and 2009 are surprisingly similar to drive, but then they basically are the same car. Of course the 09 with 11k miles feels tighter than the 00 with 125k miles. Performance wise the difference is not very noticable. I had an eBay (Chineese) $200 exhaust on the 986, and on my butt dyno it added another 100Hp! At least it sounded like that! Real GT3 sound at high rpm, and just loud enough on low rpm and part throttle. The 987.2 is WAY too quiet! Maybe that is why the 986 felt just as fast. Side by side I'm sure the 987.2 is faster. I will buy a new exhaust for the 987.2. Apart from a rediculously priced FVD headers, the only headers I have found for the 987.2 is from Fabspeed. The rest of the exhaust is identical (I believe) to the 987.1. The air intake is also too muffled, so there will be changes there too. I have installed my (factory original) 996GT3 seats, the savanna beige matches the sand beige in the 987.2. This is the 4th Porsche I have with those seats! They are the best seats ever made! I will also change to M030 springs or similar, and get a set of 18" wheels with 235/40-18 and 285/35-18 tires. And finally an ECU reflash. The 2.9L has a good potential for extra HP, doing everything right will give around 280Hp and a 7,800rpm cut off. just imagine what that would sound like with the Fabspeed headers an exhaust!!!

I know that other companies make headers, e.g. AWE headers with sport cats. One thing, I've heard people say that 987.2 headers are quite good, so you may be able to just get a loud catback exhaust for sound and power. I agree that 987.2's are too quiet. Wait... I don't think your base car is DFI, so shouldn't the sound be same as 987.1? Hmm...

As far as the intake, you can desnorkel it for improved sound. Look for articles on Planet-9. Springs: there used to be 2 choices (Eibach and H&R), but Eibach I think stopped making springs for 987's. I have H&R springs on my S and they're very good, especially on the track. Very stiff for the street. ECU - go for Softronic or EVOMSit.
