Dealer quoted $5000 all in for a quafe. Can find the unit on the web for ~1500 with about 10 hrs of labour to install. Guard is supposed to be very good and likely the way i wil go from what i am told by the mechanic that prepared my race car

Great winter job to do with real benefits for the track.

WHAT?!??!? $5000? That's ridiculously sweet. Get a Guard clutch type LSD. And I'm not just saying that because we have been running them in our Grand-Am cars without fail for 2007. Oh wait, yes I am.

Good luck.

What does the Guards unit cost plus install? I am leaning towards that.

I installed a Quaife ATB almost 4 years ago. Cost was about $1,000 for the Quaife and under 8 hours installation at my Porsche dealer. Just under $2,000 total. Significant improvement for my all year 'round (including snow) daily driver/sometimes track toy. For a primarily track car, IMO a LSD is preferable. For my primarily street car, I chose the ATB for a few reasons, not the least of which is no maintenance. I've not been disappointed. There were a bunch of Quaifes installed in Caymans around that time from a group buy. AFAIK everyone was happy and no issues.

BGB doesn't know much about Caymans (j/k), but yeah everyone loves their Guard units and it's the standard for Interseries as well as ITC as well as Grand-Am as well as World Challenge as well as...

I have a Quaife unit like STLPCA though. I can usually tell it's not a LSD under hard braking. The Guard LSD will help keep car more stable in that scenario as it's 'active' during deceleration unlike the Quaife TBD.

Don't know about costs though.

I will get the Guards unit. I am going to see if they can align it to the Cayman R specs.

Got my Quaife for around 800 bucks and installed it myself...actually a fairly strait forward DIY. Would have gotten the Guard had it been out in time. When I was looking they didnt have a good estimation on when it would be available.

I use a Guard TBD diff in my cayman, very smooth install and running. I pulled the transmission to install it, as I was replacing the clutch and flywheel at the time. Their TBD works great for autocross and street use for me.
