Default DIY guide to front bumper removal

Just posted another DIY guide to the DIY forum. This is on removing the 987 front bumper. If you haven't checked lately, you may want to have a look at debris collecting inside your front radiators. While you can often reach in or blast with water to clear the leaves/cigarette butts/dead bugs/other crap out,... removing the front bumper gives you full access to do a more thorough cleaning - e.g., once a year type of spring cleaning or late fall before putting the car away for winter. Hope this helps!

Just a general heads up -- I have not read the DIY so this may be covered and if so I apologize for repeating this -- be sure before you begin removing the bumper cover you document 100% the screws/fasteners, where they are, what the head style is, etc.

Also, be sure to document how the bumper cover fits into/over/under other body panels, both above and below/under the car.

Note the fit/positioning of the fender well liners.

When I have talked to techs about this in the past they say almost invariably if the owner (or even a body/paint shop) has had this cover off it has been put back wrong. Sure, the bumper 'fits', but the wrong fasteners are used in the wrong holes, fasteners are missing or have fallen out from being incorrectly installed, the bumper's edges are not properly inserted into or under the under body panels, and so on.

Document the bumper cover thoroughly. Take pics. Be sure you know what you need to know so you can put this back on right.

Sincerely,

Macster.
