It is about time for me to trade my E46 M3. I've had it for north of five years, it has 94k on the clock and I am ready for a change. I drive about 25 miles one way to work, mix of interstate and city streets, but not many stops to contend with. My next car will likely be kept for five to six years and will be driven roughly 15k per year. I spend enough time in the car that it is important to get a DD that I enjoy. The M3 has been bullet proof and perfect for commuting.
What ever I purchase will be pre-owned low miles. Any reasons why I shouldn't consider a Cayman S?

I use to use a Cayman S as a DD. Although the ride can be a bit still, I enjoyed it. Plenty of storage and did well in the rain. Had a set of snow tires for it and they did excellent. never really drove it whenthe snow was really deep though. I have a truck for that.

I agree, as long as you don't need rear seats a Cayman would be a perfect DD.

You were one of the extremely lucky ones to have experienced a bullet proof E46 M3.
After a SMG relay (tow), abs sensor (tow), constant threat of the VANOS grenade, brain surgery valve adjustments, and multiple checks for cracks of the rear unibody, I said goodbye after only 20K miles.
If my lawyers would let me, I would personally guarantee that your Cayman S experience will be DDlicious-especially with the second gen.

I made an offer on an 06 Cayman S this morning. Black / Black, 6spd, Bi-Xenon, heated seats, Bose, Sport Chrono. Someone forgot to use it, only 5200 miles on it.

Good luck Dave.
Make sure you get a PPI before finalizing the sale.

I am a proud new owner! I didn't do a full PPI, but got the DME print-out and all maintenance records. This car is as close to new as one could expect. Here is a link to the car.
