Default 2005 Boxster Engine Noise - Crankshaft Bearing Housing

A friend bought a 26K mile 2005 base Boxster (3/05 build) from a Porsche dealer a few weeks ago. Engine making noises this week perhaps due to a Crankshaft Bearing Housing failure. The engine is clicking and knocking between 2,200 and 3,000.

Is anyone familar with this issue, it is the first I've heard of it.

Along with the IMS issue, it really makes a person wonder about these cars.

Is this the same as an IMS bearing? Time to give Jake Raby a call.

No, I believe it is a different issue. This Boxster has the upgraded IMS bearing design from Porsche as the owner tried to install the IMS retrofit bearing and discovered the car had the updaed bearing design from Porsche.
