Need Advice - 2008 or 2009 911?
Hi everyone,
So I'm ready to trade in my 2008 Cayman S for a 911. I have always dreamed of owning a 911 since I was 10 when I had a Silver 911 Matchbox car. Also, the extra HP and backseats (small as they are) would be a welcome change from the Cayman.
Here's my issue. I test drove a half dozen CPO cars at dealers this past weekend and I'm down to 2 finalists, both are manual shifts, comparably equiped, in mint condition with clean carfax's, and no paintwork:
1) 2008 911 Coupe - 23K miles, CPO
2) 2009 911 Coupe - 8K miles, CPO
The price difference is about $8K between the two. I'm not filthy rich but I can afford either car with my trade-in. I also won't be tracking the car and I don't drive particularly agressively; this car will primarily be used on weekends. So... my questions are:
1) Is it worth the extra $8K to get the 997.2?
2) Are there issues with 2009 built 997.2s? I'm concerned reading about the potentially high oil consumption (did Porsche work this out by MY2010?), tailpipe soot buildup, and potential fuel pump recall - though since it's under warranty not a big deal.
Basically, I'm trying to decide if I should save the $8K and get the last of the 997.1 which won't have the oil and soot issues and should have the IMS issues ironed out, or should I get the 997.2 and get the more fuel efficient and powerful new engine and risk early build DFI engine issues?
Any other advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

It is the wrong forum but to help the guy out I would strongly suggest he consider the 2009. Reason one, DFI engine witch is lighter and has better cooling plus not IMS. Secondly the generation 2 997 cars had improved suspension and better steering feedback a significantly improved vehicle all around. Sorry for commenting on this topic in the wrong area.
