Default Very hard to refuel my 2009 (Gen 2 987) Boxster

I find that it is very hard to refuel my 2009 Boxster, especially at new gas stations with those suction cup style nozzles. Any advice? It takes about 100 shut offs every 1/10 of a gallon to get the tank filled. I hate getting gas in this car as it is such a hassle. I have tried to go slow, fast and even try it half way in angled up and nothing works well. Should I take it in to the dealer? Thanks.

Have you tried pushing the nozzle further in? Most of the gas stations around MA have similar evaporation recovery systems and most need to be pushed a certain amount to get them to pump without shut off.

I have this problem at some pumps, too. It seems to be specific to certain nozzles at each island at my regular station -- some fill up fine, others are finicky. For the finicky pumps, I rotate the nozzle 90 degrees and it usually will fill the tank just fine. It's a pain having to hold it that way, but it works.

Slightly off topic, but why did Porsche put the filler for the tank on the Boxster on the right (passenger) side and the left side for the 911?

I have the same problem with both my Boxster and my VW R32; perhaps it's a German thing? The solution I've found is to NOT put the nozzle in all the way in. Instead, put it in so there's about an inch or so to go. It will fill up without interruption and still stop when the tank is full as it should.

Both the Boxster and 911 have the fuel filler on the passenger side, starting with the 996.

There is internet chatter about a service bulletin for fuel filling issues. I have the same problem, and plan to mention it next time the car is in for service.

Thanks. My 911 Turbo is a '97. Having it on the passenger side is much easier. Get closer to the pump and easier to open the car door.

There is a plastic ring that they place and it helps but does not completely resolve the issue.

Sometimes it's related to not having a good air pressure equalization line. If it gets kinked, air doesn't flow smoothly back out of the tank and the tank appears full to the shut off mechanism. Also, you can rotate the nozzle 180º and try it again.

Both my Boxster (02) and my 911 (03 Turbo) have the filler for the gas tank on the right (passenger) side of the car.

Save for the color difference (the Boxster is lapis blue and the Turbo is arctic silver) they're near as I can identical.

Sincerely,

Macster.

My former '84 911 and '04 GT3 and current '11 Boxster S all suffer from Gas Pump Difficulty.

The solution I use is to hold the nozzle upside down - ie rotate it 180 degrees. Always works perfectly.
(Cviles, above, recommend 90 degrees.)

None of these things work at this gas station. I have tried them all. This place is 5 months old and has everything that is all new as the place burned to the ground 2 years ago. Their nozzles are just not for my Porsche. No problem with my Mercedes. I have been to other stations in the area that are older and never have the trouble, so it must be these stupid pumps. Unfortunately, this place is $0.20 per gallon less than other stations in my area so I can't pass it up if I need gas in my town. Must be my NJ roots...
