Default Something sounds loose

After I start the car and initially start moving I can hear a clunking inside the rear somewhere. It goes away when the car warms up so I am guessing someplace under the car on in the engine compartment.

Anyone had this or any suggestions as to what to look for?

I was going to suggest that it may your swaybars (I have Tarrets and they are known to be noisy) but if it goes away once the engine heats up, maybe I hear a different clunking sound.

Anything aftermarket on your car? More when you're turning or accelarating?

Nothing aftermarket except trans mounts. But this was happening well before that.

If possible, record it and the guys here or on P9 can help identify it... not familiar so I can't help unfortunately.

I'll try to do that. Was thinking of buying an electronic stethoscope to try to track it down. The back of the Cayman is like an amphitheater.

Whatever came with car. The CS has 35k on it.

I tried something different today. I went "long" distances with the motor at idle and could hear clunking from the back. Sometimes its from the left rear, sometimes its from the right rear. The car has all OEM suspension, non-PASM.

I used to have problems with the hatch not resting on the body but fixed that and those clunks are gone.

Last thing touched first thing suspected. I'm thinking the hatch is the source of the noise.

The hatch wants to be held down securely so that it no part of it can move about/up and down and cause any noises, like a knock.

Try pressing down on the hatch all over and see if you can create any movement. It doesn't take much to cause a knocking noise.

My other WAG is that one or both rear brakes have pads that are a bit loose in the calipers and these are moving about, and that is the source of the knocking noise.

Sincerely,

Macster.

I think I will recheck the hatch again as there is something else back there I noticed this morning. But the knocking I hear happens more over small bumps and can be heard on both sides of the car when the respective tire hits a bump - Left bump, left knock, right bump, right knock. But again who knows as sounds are so difficult to track down in this car.

The other noises this morning were definitely in the car. I wish Porsche did a better job of this hatch. It seems to be quite a sore spot with numerous cars.

Have your water pump checked.

Mine started similar. Heard a rattling sound in the rear, I thought something had gotten into the exhaust somehow. Within a few days, I was leaking coolant. Turned out to be water pump failure.
