just want to share, went to a Porsche dealer yesterday and had a long discussion about Boxster and spyder. I ask regarding their 2011 stocks, why they only carry 1 2011 boxster and no cayman...and plenty Carrera's in stock and Panamra. The answer was the new model Boxster 2012 will be coming out, a light weight and slightly different body. He mentioned that Porsche is just getting rid of the 2011/987 model. he also mentioned that the Boxster spyder will be continued atleast until early 2012 as a limited production. Boxster will continue its six cylinder engine for now.

Interesting response from the dealer. Everything I've read says that the 997 replacement will be introduced before the 987 replacement.
I have also heard that the Boxster, Cayman and 911 will increase in size with the introduction of the new models. If they are light it means they're using more exotic materials which is definitely a step in the right direction.

Interesting indeed. I ordered a 2011 Base 987 Boxster at the beginning of March and when the build sheet came through from the factory, it indicated my car would be a 2012 MY 987, completion date, April 14 (tomorrow!). I talked with the dealership when seeing the 2012 MY designation but they said the car would be essentially the same as a 2011. I'm not one to buy a car in its first model year, so I was relieved and figured it was all good, getting the car I had intended, one MY newer and at no increase in my cost.
Makes me think that the new model "2012" Boxster might be released in 2012, but will carry a 2013 MY designation?

It will be a total shock if the 991 isn't at Frankfurt in September.
The LA Auto Show is in November, and the Detroit show is in January. The 981 will probably be debuted at one or the other. The following major show is Geneva in March.
