Is a special wrench required for the oil filter?

It's a bear to remove the filter w/your bare hands and since it's got a plastic housing, I wouldn't use a compression/strap type filter wrench. So, using the proper wrench is a good idea.
However, you don't need the Porsche $30+ wrench, since you can pick up the correct wrench (74mm 14 flutes) from most auto parts stores (or Walmart, etc.) for under $10.
The oil filter wrench I bought from Advance Auto Parts fits a 3/8" drive ratchet wrench & is made by "AmPro Tools." The packaging describes it as a Cup Type Oil Filter Wrench 74/76mm 14 Flutes - 2 Step. It was $5.
Follow the recommended torque settings when you replace the housing:
Torque settings:
Plastic oil filter housing = 18.5 ft/lb (25 Nm)
Oil Drain Plug (w/crush washer) = 37 ft/lb (50.2 Nm)
