speaking of losing my mind but.........

since the Cayman/CS is a 987 Chassis as well, wouldn't it make sense to call the "987 forum" the "987 Boxster forum" so idiots like me who spend 70 hours a week around these things won't post pictures of the 987 Cayman S/DFI/PDK sex machine in the "987" forum and then make a post here looking for said post, won't make mistakes like this and then....

look like an idot? lol

what? Just say'n.

matt, i would buy a DFI cayman s to track. but i would do manual not PDK. many ppl touted it, but i dont think it shifts right for me. operator error, as usual i am sure.

you will need smaller crankshaft pulley so the pwr steering will not cook itself to oblivion. 4 heavily tracked cay s in CA replaced a total of 12+ ps racks.

Default I wouldnt

The buttons push to shift up and pull to shift down, are counter intuitive and plain silly.

If it had paddles then I would have given it a serious look.

For the time being, Im holding on to my 07.

I would willingly buy a new Cayman S with the PDK. I would add the LSD and Sport Seats, and a very few other things for my personal tastes. I am one of the few, appearantly, who "gets it" with the new PDK shifters and how they work. Left brain, right brain, half brain, whatever. They really work for me. I see the huge potential for them at the track. One-hand shifting, basically, without taking your hands off the wheel, or your feet off the gas and brakes. My left foot is finally looking for retirement from clutch duty. And the PDK does what you want or need RIGHT NOW!
The only thing that ticks me off right now is that they don't offer the Alcantara for the PDK shifter steering wheel. Come on! If you want people to keep both hands on the wheel, and you make it easy for them to do so, then why not offer the best material for steering wheels at the track? all the other stupid finishes are available (carbon fibre, aluminum look, leather). How hard is this?
Back to the one-hand shifting thing. I could keep my right foot on the gas, my left foot near the brake, my right hand steering and shifting up and down with my fingertips, and my left hand outside the window waving by whoever buys my 996.

I would. I once test drove a TT with the Audi version and I loved it. My reality is that the time I spend stop-starting on So Cal freeways is (unfortunately) more time than I get to spend on more fun roads. Going from 'automatic' to 'manual' control of the transmission suits the dual nature of how I spend time in my Cayman. So for me, the PDK would be an excellent addition.

It also doesn't hurt that sequential transmissions are the norm for those racing series that value technical development -- which, no coincidence, are the series that I follow.

I would probably wait for the paddles, though -- or at least until there was a good aftermarket alternative.

All of this is fantasy in any case, as I love my 2006, and I've only had it a year. I don't see myself springing $60k+ any time soon.
