Not really. I painted the calipers on my 996 and applied the lettering without any issue. Just make sure you position the letters correctly with the bottom of the letter toward the wheel hub. I recall seeing a pic that someone took after they painted their calipers yellow and put the lettering up side down.
Here is a pic after I painted the calipers red (they were originally black) and applied the letters.
About 2 months later I painted the top hats silver (2nd pic).

I have done mine 3x so far . My sugestions are ..
1.Use a caliper Spray Paint (Duplicolor) not the brush on G2 or whatever(I have tried 3 kinds) .
2.there are 2 sizes of caliper stickers on e-bay so the bigger ones are actually easier to align up and cooler looking in my opinion.also most caliper sticker sellers give you 6 in case of screw ups .(and they happen)
3lay on the ground when you apply them unless your car is on a lift and align the 2 outside points evenly to the center of the caliper and gently apply and take a look first cause once you press hard your done ,the sticker wont come off ,so basically just go real slow with the process and use a keen eye and you can do it .I always order an extra set just in case heck they are only $7.00 so what the heck .GOOD LUCK
