Default Maintenance strategy

Hi, I just bought a 2005 Boxster S with 13,300 miles. Since it went into service on 6/05, it is technically due for the 4 yr/40,000 miles major service next summer. I checked with the local dealership and they told me that the last service done on the car was an oil/filter change last April. This means the 2yr minor service has not been done.

Given I'm on year 3 what would you suggest? Here are the choices I'm considering:
1. Do the 2yr service @ $600 now and the 4yr svc @$950 include new plugs next year - ouch! expensive and seems overkill considering I'll likely be at only 20k miles by next Summer.

2. Skip the 2yr svc and get a oil/filter change instead @ $189. Then get the 4y major service next summer.

3. Find a private repair shop specialized at Porsches and do the maintenance there. Likely it would be cheaper. Anyone go this route?

I consider oil/filter change very important and plan to do it every year but what do you guys think of the minor/major services? Seems like lots of simple checks for a lot of $$. Do you guys also do the brake fluid flushes every 2 yrs?

Check the maintenance booklet and see which items are repeated for minor/major service. Brake fluid really needs to be replaced every 2 yrs; you may get a way with just changing the oil/filter, air filter, check all fluids, and check everything under the chassis (like rubber boots, etc); you could wait for the spark plugs -- how does the car run?

The car runs great. It is immaculate inside and out. I'll check with the dealer to see if they're willing to do just oil/filter and brake fluid change. I never had another car that needed brake fluide changes every 2 yrs but then again I never owned a Porsche before.

Good that it runs great. Brake fluid typically absorbs 2% water by volume, and since 4% is the max without causing problems, this is where the 2 years comes from -- it's not just a Porsche mandate.

Congrats on the car and enjoy it -- they're great cars!
