The Club Porsche de France will run a Cayman Cup next year. Here is the first car modified to do it.

Here is a resume of the document I have:
- Organized by the Club Porsche Motorsport France (former Club Porsche de France)
- Lightweight Cayman S, equipped with race security parts (roll cage, bucket seats, harness...) including modified suspension. No engine modifications allowed.
Price, around € 70,000 for a race ready car. The base price of a Cayman S is € 61,650 in France.
- Limited to 40 entrants in 2008.
- 12 Races during 6 meetings in 2008, in France.
- Non professionnel drivers only.
- A set of tires per meeting only ("sport tires", like Michelin Sport Cup)
- No mechanical changes allowed.
- € 7,000 for the 2008 season for a pilot, € 8,500 for two pilots. This includes the food during the meetings, and a "Cayman Cup" racing suit per pilot.
I'm sure there will be an article about this serie soon and I can keep you informed if you like.
I know this Club has tried to obtain from Porsche the production of a Boxster Club-Sport for years without success. I would like to know if the factory was involved in the "Cup kit".

I think it has an interesting vinyl transfer job.
but realistically, at those budget levels it will break if anybody gives it a serious booting.
the claim about 'lightweight' is risible, at those price levels its not possible, especially with the 'clunking fist' cage they have put in.
For those who are interested, lightweight doors cost €4,500 each.

Robin, I'm going to guess here judging from the limited info provided in the pictures but I think by "lightweight" he means a gutted interior and possibly no A/C. Just basic stuff.
As far as the suspension goes I would like more info but from the pictures it still looks like it is softly sprung...
It is a step in the right direction and I wish them all the best. The more Caymans on the track the better. The baseline info of what works and what doesn't is what those of us in the US are after.

Having a lot of Cayman on the track is fine. Having a lot of breakdowns is not so clever. This problem is partially dealt with by running sealed stock engines. I do anticipate clutch/transmission problems and a surprising number of people running out of talent as they come into the corner.
When 'going for it', the transmission gets a touch stressed.
On the positive side, French club racing can get quite physical and they make up for any technical shortcomings with lashings of enthusiasm. So expect fireworks.

I'm sure you have noticed the "IMSA Performance" truck on two pictures.
This team is certainly involved in the serie because it is a good racing team and also a Porsche dealer.
Let's wait and see if they can track the car without too much problems.
I will let you know.

If the doors cost almost 10K euros, how do they plan to sell the car for 70K if the stock one lists at 61,5? I guess they save a bit on interior stuffs, but if they uprate suspension and other components, it is pretty easy to spend that savings.
I've read your past posts about the Cayman tranny Robin... is the tranny stock or beefed up in the Cup model? LSD?
Man, next time I'm in Munich I would love to sit down and have a Schneider with you.... missed my chance this past July. Ah well, next time around! Besides, I'll need some local ring guidance next time!

Be absolutely clear this is a Club rather than a Cup car (regardless of the name of the competition).
I am not sure if its the Audi gearbox, but given the budget......
Quite honestly, they have to fit a roll cage, seats, harnesses, tow hooks, electrical cut out, upgrade suspension, I really don't see where the budget comes from.
Without a LSD the cars will be less fast and hopefully crash less expensively.

Nordschleife, the Cayman S tranny is sourced from Audi? I thought it was the same as the one in the carrera. If from Audi, which unit is it? Thanks.

I believe the CS box is made by Getrag (Germany), while the Carrera uses an Aisin Seiki box (Japan). Getrag is also an oem gearbox supplier for Audi, as well as other car manufacturers.
