Default Leftover '06 Base Boxster price check

This is my first post. I have learned a great deal from everything I've read. I'm now getting serious about Boxster and I've noticed that there are still an appreciable number of '06 models unsold. many of these cars have MSRP's in the middle 40's. Am I being unrealistic to think that a person should be able to buy a base '06 Boxster under $40,000? With the end of MY07 fast approaching, I would think that dealers would be willing to deal on these cars. Mind that I'm not referring to cars with many options at all.

What is the feeling?

Make them an offer. The worst they can do is say no. Then tell them to call you back if they decide to meet your offer after the car sits a few more months.

Welcome to Rennlist. I would expect at least 20% off MSRP.

They get pretty high and almighty in the summer with any drop top. It could be a left over wrangler soft top and they will want the moon as long as its warm.
If they want to sell it they it they will deal. When you are buying from dealer stock just think of it as any other car and negotiate.
Good Luck!

Thanks for all of the advice. It's frustrating to be mocked as "silly" by a salesperson. It's hard to sell cars by ridiculing customers.

Thanks again, I enjoy reading all of the posts.

I picked up my '06 Boxster in Feb of '07. It was a dealer left over, one of only two '06's left on the lot, and it was about 17 degrees and snowing the day I went shopping for it. Needless to say, they were more than happy to give me 20% off. Sticker was $52K, and I drove it off the lot for $42k. If you can manage to wait until it starts getting cold, I think it is worth it. Granted, I had to wait about 4 months until I could finally enjoy the car with the top down, but saving $10K was worth it!

I just got a 2006 Boxster 2 weeks ago. The dealership had 1 '06 S, which has since been sold. MSRP for my car was $53k, and the selling price was $42k. Very happy w/ the deal since the car is exactly what I would have ordered. Virtually no '06's left at the N. Calif dealers.
