Default Cayman HYBRID....

What might be my chance of success in transplanting the hybrid drive system, ICE, MG1/MG2, etc, from a wrecked FWD Prius to a RWD Cayman, keeping the Cayman's RWD aspects?

Then recover some of the Cayman's "GO" by adding a SuperCharger driven by an A/C motor using a variable frequency drive powered by the 270 hybrid battery.

What do yawl think...?

I thought that Chevy powered p-cars were bad, but this would take the cake.

I like a 4.3L 914, but 13B turbo takes the cake.

Just get two electric motors from Tesla. Much easier and fast as hell it would be

Who knows the alternative gas could be here soon and all the money spent on hybrids will be a waste. Look at other countries like brazil for example who have the alternative gas that is made from soybeans. The only reason we don't have the gas here yet is there is to much money in gas and the people who control it won't let it go. If you make a move, they will either buy you out or snuff you out.

I think you'd have a really expensive Cayman that goes 0-60 in about 10 seconds...

Sports cars are not economic decisions - they're purchases to fulfill emotions. Replacing the "heart" of a sports car for better gas mileage is like replacing an attractive/fun women with a boring chick 'cause she won't order fancy dinners ... the benefit just isn't there anymore.

Was I thinking about saving fuel...??

Moreso about AWESOME low end torque and performance, especially given the addition of a 3HP SuperCharger driven by an A/C motor powered by a variable frequency inverter using the hybrid battery. INSTANT BOOST right from idle, fully metered all the way up to max RPM.

Or about having a RWD hybrid.

Making a statement....

Fullfilling emotions....RIGHT ON!

Perhaps my comments were a bit shortsighted ... clearly your intentions are different - it's your cash so spend it as it makes YOU happy.

You could start with the electric 914's http://www.electroauto.com/gallery/vp914.shtml for ideas.

Personally I think it's all just "torque"

a 3 hp blower/supercharger will honestly not do a whole lot for the engine's power output. A true supercharger sucks down an amount of power an order of magnitude higher, and its already mechanical energy and does not need converted with the efficiency loss of an electric motor. Hybrid driveline? Sure, that does seem viable, if you so desire. The electric supercharger... no. The power would be better spent going straight to the electric drive. For boosting a hybrid powertrain's performance, one of the editors of Autospeed magazine had marginal success fitting a turbocharger to the Prius, but had much difficulty with the powertrain controls due to the increased power output.

I like the approach.

I would make it different : Take a Carrera, put an electric motor in the front, batteries in the tunnel (where the Carrera 4/turbo transaxle is). Remove AC and extra things. Now, just have a good alternator to charge the batteries.
When you need to start slowly, low emission (city) you start on the front electric wheels, having like 80 hp.
When you cruise, keep your 300 gas hp to make it well.
But at acceleration, have a 375 AWD drive machine for few seconds

That's the way I would imagine a hybrid sport car.
