Default sunroof

Parked next to a beautiful black on black cayman at Sebring this weekend. Noticed lack of sunroof. Very interesting given all the strife in gt3 land about mandatory sunroofs on the 997 gt3 and gt3rs.
So what's the story? Is it an expensive option or a credit delete item?
Apologies in advance re my cayman knowlegde deficit.

Caymans don't have sunroofs. None do.

OUTSTANDING! Maybe it is destined to be the next racing platform for Porsche.

I think the roofline has too much curve to have a sunroof...

In that case they've got to add some curve to the gt3 roof.

Don't you think a Cayman with a lift-out roof ala the 968 would be tasty? I'm surprised nobody else feels the interior is cramped.

no, what cayman need is a GT3 motor, that will pretty much kill EVERYTHING on the circuit. z06, 360's whatever.

it does not need a hole on top.

..actually, the Cayman has an option for quite a large hole on the top. It's called a Boxster.

Boxter? Hmmm...think I have heard of that. Cute ragtop but, as PCNA tells me, totally different than the Cayman.

Completely agree on the need for more power. In fact, once the 3.6L gets dropped in, I'm in. But, using the CS as a daily driver vs. a track toy, that small cabin seems like it could get old very quickly.

How tall are you mikey175? I only ask because I've used a Boxster as a daily driver and, while the cabin is "intimate", it's something you get used to and feels just fine. The Cayman, to me, felt more open than the Boxster (thanks to more glass / light around you). FYI I'm 5'-11" and...er..."over two bucks".

I'm 6'0" but, mostly, I am just spoiled by my targa's glass roof. I love the Cayman's styling -- all but the front end (but can be fixed nicely with the GT2 splitter) and would be a Cayman buyer if I had the option of popping out the roof on sunny days. Maybe you're right that the Boxter is as close as it gets, but I love hatches and have had more than my share of ragtops.

Well I think it would be an interesting option (pop out roof - a la 4 series cars). I wonder if it would cut into the chassis' regidity?
