Default PCM and mp3

I have a 2006 Boxster S and the latest PCM/Nav.

First question is how to play mp3s. I burn a disk with iTunes in mp3 format and the car won't recognize the CD. Any hints. I used a 700MB disk, if that matters.

Also, what version of the software should be installed on the unit?

Also, I have the sport chrono package. I understand there are features in the nav to use with sport chronos and also to set personal settings. I can find any of this.

I am asking this because I never got a navigation system manual. I am in the dark!

MP3's play normally as a CD. I just tried mine - works great! I just picked up my car on Saturday so I'm still learning about the car.

I play 700MB disks created with iTunes in my 2006 but it's the non-nav unit.

Hey Periokid,

Did you get the problem solved? I got one recently as well, and the dealer has to do a software upgrade to turn the MP3/WMA function on. In my case, it "broke" the CD player, so I got a new PCM. It works fine now.

For the Sports functionality, press the TRIP button. One of the options listed will be "Sport Display". Once you go in there, then you have to start the stop watch from the control stalk on the steering. As you do the 'interim timing', it will ask you if it's a new lap or not.

The only peeve I have about that is that the PCM doesn't seem to "attach" to an existing stop-watch timer. In other words, you have to set the PCM before you start the stop watch.

I haven't played yet with saving reference laps, etc. Soon, I'm sure. Forgot to mention, the new PCM hasn't been set up for the Sports package yet, so another trip to the dealer. Last time, I got a Cayenne loaner - HEAVY on the gas, and much less fun than a boxster - so am putting off the trip

Also, I didn't get a PCM manual either. All the other manuals kept referring to the PCM manual, so went back to the dealer, and asked him for it. He just took it out of another car and gave it to me

My trip function has nothing about "sport display". Hmm. Perhaps my car needs to be reprogrammed. No Mp3 and no sports display.

I've found that if I burn the MP3 thru iTunes, it puts the music into "folders" (artist). The format of this confuses the unit. Irregardless, mine still played this CD correctly although it had to "think" about it for a while - maybe 30 secs. With iTunes format, it didn't show the names of the folders.

When I merely "copied" MP3's into a CD, it played faster (i.e. - it didn't have to think about it) AND each track shows with artist name, song, etc....

The verdict? Don't use iTunes to make your MP3 CD's.

You can't directly burn MP3's of music bought on the itunes music store. You can however, burn them to an audio CD and then re-import them into your library. Then you can burn them as MP3's. All these conversions reduce the sound quality so you will have to experiment and see if you are OK with the results.

When I re-import won't I have two of the same songs in my library? How do I tell which one can be burned in the MP3 format?...Thanks

2 options:

1) The newly imported MP3's will not have the album cover art show up in the lower left hand corner when you select them in the itunes library.

2) Change the song title slightly. Add a -2 after the song name or something.

Nope. The DVD "player" will only work for the navigation DVD. Would have been nice to be able to play regular DVDs - not sure when I'd use it, but would have been nice to know that I could.

The in-dash CD (only one that plays MP3s) works only with CDs. Come to think of it, I haven't tried a DVD in there. I'm sure it would have said in the manual, or the sales person would have said something if it did.

akif,

I believe the DVD comment for for the computer only. Nothing to do with the car. That way re-importing them won't require a lot of CDs if dealing with a lot of songs.

So the in dash CD only plays the MP3s or the changer too?
