I think the early 996s had it as an option, but not for long.

Not in the US. 997 has a sport suspension with LSD that comes with the car in Europe. There was also a small run of 996 Anniversary editions with LSD (and the 1999 cars had it as an option), but generally, you have to buy a Turbo (optional), GT2 or GT3 (standard) to get LSD (and a real dry sump motor as well)...

LSD allows you to come off a tight corner faster, get on throttle harder and earlier without spinning the inside rear tire.

see mooty's answer above... and it might not sound like a big deal, but it does make a difference. No real sportscar should be without LSD.

it is a big deal indeed. when i work my a*s off chasing 996's to the hairpins at infineon only to see them power out of the apex while i am twirling my thumbs waiting for the rear to straighten out before i apply throttle.....

yeah, rub it in pcar
i am looking for a good LSD. when they come out, i will be the first on the list.

going to bleed the brk's now getting ready for fun friday next!

It adds traction on the power (makes the car 2WD instead of 1WD) and adds stability under braking and cornering.

probably the easiest place to start asking is at whoever handles TTP - who does engines for Gemballa, amongst others

I hope a good option becomes available without breaking the bank. Even for my old 993, finding a decent replacement LSD is an expensive proposition...

Believe me, I'm not ready to buy a TT either, but I think if LSD were a factory option, it would be no more than it is on the TT (much less than aftermarket)...

FYI
Farnbacher Loles will be selling the LSD for Cayman. It will be available in about a month.

you sure about that? i spoke to someone there and they told me they won't do a la carte. you buy the whole GTR or nothing. and if you want a GTR, you will get the GT3 nose cone and lights etc, not custom built to what you want.

and they were rather, how shall i put it..... unpleasant about it.
