...is as follows:
"Porsche is firing on all cylinders [there's no direct English equivalent to the original French saying]. In the coming months, the Cayman family could develop rapidly. According to the British Specialty magazine, Autocar, Porsche may have developed a Targa variant of the Cayman, equipped with a rear sliding glass roof. This technique first appeared on the 993 generation of the 911. The price premium [for the Cayman Targa] shouldn't be too high. We can only hope that this model will see the light of day. Several months ago, rumours of a targa version of the Cayenne SUV (and even a pick-up version) were equally derided as a false trail. I however wait still to see it surveying our roads!"
A Cayman with a removable targa roof like the Ferrari 246 Dino (or probably more appropriately like a Carrera GT) would be one sexy car. Though I'm not sure I'd be willing to trade off the loss in structural rigidity.
I'll believe it when I see Porsche Cars AG talking about it and making press releases--to me it seems idiotic to sacrifice the structural integrity of the Cayman for a Targa top, plus it would be cutting into more 911 territory from a price and option perspective. As mentioned above, they already have a Boxster.
Call me crazy, but I don't see anything happening with the Cayman gaining removable roofs, sliding roofs, sunroofs, etc, etc, etc. If Porsche does a Targa, it will most likely be with the 911 series cars I would think.
