I think the only difference could be with the antenna on the 987...
But even if that proves to be the case, I'm sure there would be a work-around.
I just bought a new 987S with PCM, so I think I'd be in good shape. Still, I might let a couple of others go first before I take the plunge.
Thanks again for sharing this... I suppose I need to spend more time on the other forums because there is lots of useful information that isn't necessarily model-specific.

True, you could install a SAT receiver and simply use an FM transmitter/modulator for much less cost; the OEM parts solution does provide for full integration with steering wheel controls....and will look/act/feel identical to the 'no date scheduled yet' ordering option for 987 and 997.
When I first picked up my Cayman S with PCM, I had the XM Commander installed with an FM modulator. Looked good but sounded awful and you lose AM when it is on. Had that removed and the Cayenne factory kit installed (Approx $1400 installed by Porsche dealer) and it works beautifully and sounds infinitely better. If you are addicted to SAT radio (guilty as charged), it is definitely worth going the factory route.
