Default Sport shifter?

Has anyone ordered the sport shifter (option code XCZ; $795)?

I installed the aftermarket B&M in my Boxster S and have come to love it. (A bit stiff when the tranny is cold is my only real complaint.)

B&M also made the sport shifter offered by Porsche in the 986 Boxster, but I've been told they do not make the one in the 987, which is reputed to be all plastic.

So......how do you like the stock shifter? Does it need a shorter throw? If you have the sport shifter, how do you like it? Do you know who makes it?

Thanks, Andy

I love my stock unit and think it has better feel than the short throw. I drove them in both the Boxster S and Carrera before ordering my Cayman. That said, there are quite a few owners on CaymanClub.net who prefer the short throw. Drive both and decide for yourself.

it's a personal feel thing. i had both, but i prefer the longer throw. it allows me to be certain which gear i am in as i drop from 2 gears for tight hairpins.

Mooty,

Which one has the sport shifter, the black or the grey?

The Porsche one being used in the 987/997/Cayman is the blue plastic version. It is not the older B&M/Porsche clone style.

I do not know who makes it.

I have to say that the stock Cayman S shifter is one of the nicest I've used; smooth, fast and relatively short throws.

I had the 996 factory short shifter in my 40th Anniv 911 and after two weeks with it, I had the dealer swap it out for a stock shifter. If the short shifters from Porsche are anything like the clunker for the 996, it would definitely be a huge step backwards from the stock Cayman shifter...
