Some buyers select this no charge option because they believe:
1. the rear deck looks cleaner w/o the model designation;
2. it's one less thing to get ripped off by a thief;
3. it eliminates the hassle of cleaning dirt/built up wax from around the script;
4. it eliminates the chance of snagging during washing/drying which can bend/break the script; or
5. it's cheaper than the script painted exterior color option & the script color doesn't look good.

Excuse a non-english-mother tounge individual, but why isn't it called "Deleted model designation" instead? Other option codes seem to represent some sort of a condition rather than an activity.

"delete" is used as a noun in that sentence not a verb.

Hmmm.... you forgot to add that it's for "poseurs" who don't like to advertize that they didn't buy the "S" version and then start adding wheels/aero packages (if available) to make it look like an S. Then again, I suppose, they can always just buy the "S" badge, too...

M3Armand:
Sorry but this is not a Honda forum. We aren't slapping "Type R" on everythihng we own. Most Porsche owners don't do that because most Porsche owners can spot an "S" or any other derivative of the car at first glance.

Daniel
The option may be considered as an instruction to the factory to: "delete (the) model designation" from the order.

M3
Huh? This IS the Cayman S forum, so you can safely presume the question related to the delete model designation for Cayman S buyers. You think they're trying to dupe the masses into believing they own a pre-production base Cayman?

I deleted the model script off my Boxster S for all the reasons Dan mentioned (actually bought the car new that way). IMHO it just looks better.

Holy crap, I guess I must be a "poseur" then. I deleted my badging because I always broke the "B" off of my old one when I was washing it. I have sport exhausts becaue I don't like the "butthole" look of the one center exhaust and I also have the 18" Boxster rims on my new one. Maybe I should paint my calibers red too and then I wil be ready for my "S" on the back. Oh screw it, maybe I will take the badge off my M3, it's faster then then S and then people will be really impressed by me, I can fool everybody.

Some of us just don't like badging.

Having moved from Calgary, Alberta, Canada to Beverly Hills, CA 3 years ago I can confirm that the majority of model designation deletes were due to "wann-a-be's". I disagree that most Porsche owners can tell the difference in California. Any car guy can tell if the BMW-M, SVT Cobra etc. are fake. Its not a Porsche owner but a car guy you refer to be able to tell the difference.

If you like the cleaner look of no badging, great!!!! It's your car, do what you want.
