Last year I traded in my 2001 TT for a 2005 Mercedes SLK 350 which my wife promptly took from me. Later on I bought myself a 997 and really love it. A of late my wife has discovered the clutch on the MB really causes her severe pain behind her left knee (Clutch knee as I call it) We are going to look at a new Boxster today, with TIP instead of the manual. I haven't driven a Boxster since 2001. My P dealership has a couple of 05s and a few 06s, although I haven't seen any of them.
Are there any significant differences between between say the 04, 05 and 06 Boxsters. Is the S worth the price difference.
The 04 Boxster is the 986 platform and the 05/06 are the 987 platform so they are significantly different animals. I think the S is worth the price difference. The extra torque will be nice especially with a Tip. Drive them both and see what you think.
Thanks guys for the comments. We drove a grey base model and the a Guards red S with chromed lobster forks. We came home with the S. We live about 30 miles from the P store and really enjoyed the ride home. Will clay the car and add Zaino today. Its the wife's car and I haven't seen her this excited in a long time. Kept my 997 coupe.
I only drove the MB a few times. The throttle response was impressive. Never could get comfortable in the car, because of the seating geometry I guess. The MB reved very quickly, especially in first gear, but you had to watch the rpms closely to avoid overeving. Car felt stiff but not solid, if that makes sense.
Boxster S feels like a sports car immediately and gives the feeling of being part of the road. I wouldn't trade my Boxster S for two MBs. I think my S is more fun to drive than my 997 Carrera.
Chris,
I too love the Guards red, thanks for the compliment!
Lobster forks are what he's are calling the design of the standard wheels. They kind of look like little 2 prong lobster forks at the end of each main spoke.
