"Excellence" from Excellence - 1st Test Drive
Just rec'd my Nov Excellence with their "Cayman S! First Driving Impressions." They had this to say after testing at & around Malmsheim ... in the dry & in the wet:
- the Cayman is as rigid a platform as any serious driver could ever wish for.
- the new Porsche coupe consistently feels like it's cast as a single piece ... .
- turn-in is both crisper and quicker ... than it would be in a Boxster.
- the Cayman has an inherent stability that feels impenetrable.
- Where the 911 Carrera, good as it is now, always reminds you of its pendulous weight at the rear, the Cayman S races to the apex of a turn like a giant, closed-top go-kart.
- The Cayman S is meant to be a hardcore driver's car before anything else.
- a true enthusiast's car in no uncertain terms.
- GT and RS models aside, this really is the best-handling production Porsche ever.
and the only negative comment:
- Killjoy EU drive-by noise regulations are responsible for the Cayman S's weak exhaust signature.

HA, its only said flaw is QUICKLY fixed here in the states!!! Open exhaust!!!!!!
I am also really curious if the rear carpeting can be removed and a custom Lexan panel can be fitted over the engine! Does anyone know yet what the construction is back there?
The Cayman is looking better and better with every new bit of info!

Actually, I think any Porsche engine is worth looking at, even if it doesn't have a vacuum cleaner of an air cooling system.

Well the way the Cayman is we could easily do some crazy stuff. Why not remove the engine and put an LS1 in there! Space is not an issue, we have the whole trunk area! Heat? Just crack a window!
Just find an engine pretty enough to stick out in there!

I'm so anxious to drive one. I loved my 200hp Boxster(s)...this thing must completely, absolutely, and totally rock. I'm thinking a used one will be my next Porsche...

Back to what Dan posted, which is definitely some positive reports on the new Cayman platform. I am defintely anixious to see and hopefully drive one once they are officially launched at my local dealer.
