Question CDR-24 "Ghost" Retuning?

Noticed this on the drive home last night:

Radio on my CDR-24 was tuned to 105.3Mhz, was listening to a song and RDS information was scrolling across both the HU and the info display on the tach.

Out of nowhere, the song was inturrupted with a completely different song, totally different genre. At first, I thought I had pulled next to someone who had an FM transmitter for their XM radio or CD player, but after everyone had moved I realized that either the radio station was having managerial issues, or the tuner had decided to pick a new station. At this point, the RDS information had stopped scrolling, but still listed the station identifier (105.3)

When I re-selected the station from pre-set, the original station was tuned back in. Has anyone experienced their radios auto-tuning away from any station? I do not have steering wheel controls and did not hit any buttons on the radio, and again, the radio still displayed it was tuned into the original station.

I don't know if this is your problem, but I have the same symptoms (every morning) with both my CDR-23 and BMW Business radio. When I drive near the transmitter of an FM station, that station's signal takes over the full FM band on my radio. Once I get about a half mile away from the transmitter the radio returns to normal.

update:

well, we're definitely talking about a tuner problem here. I just found out the radio station will retune itself to 96.5 but display 105.3. This only happens on 105.3, which is very bizzare.

Here's how I figure this is what's going on:

I can manually tune the car to 105.3 and then listen for the new station to "take over". When I go to tune away either up or down, I am directed to the next stations in order: 95.7 and 95.3 respectively, as opposed to 105.5 and 105.1.

This has to be one of the most bizzare glitches I've seen.

I'm tracking some of the same problems with radios here in VA.Can you find out if the stations belong to Clear Channel communications?Thanks

105.3 = Clear Channel
96.5 = Infinity Broadcasting

I'm curious as to the conclusion you are drawing on your end? Mine seems to be pointed more towards the radio tuner itself.

mbodo:

The factory has detuned the becker crap head unit. It should automatically tune to 98.7 and we all know that.

Becker=crap

Porsche knows it
Becker knows it
They never fix it

Trust me: two porsches, 4 head units, still does not work right. I turn mine off and listen to the PSE (C4S Cab). Better sound, station never changes.
