CD system can be turned on with no ignition??

Does everyone's system do this too?
Seems strange. And seems it could be a battery drain risk if left on accidentally...

I have the PCM system and it displays a message saying that the radio will only play a short time without the car running. It probably turns off automatically at some point to prevent battery drain.
