Default Opinion: Rear view mirror design

I have to say, after a few weeks of owning my 987S, I think that from a design standpoint, the thing is a beauty.

The only thing that has been nagging me so far is the design of the rearview mirror attached to the windshield. The lines on the rearview (almost a frowning face??) don't seem to be an emulation of any other part of this car, interior or exterior. Have I missed something, or is this a carryover from the 986? It looks like it matches the interior of the 986's based on the pictures I've seen.

Having a subtle eye for design and having the word "design" in a professional title in a former life, it bugs me.

well boo to the design team for leaving this legacy bit of interior in the car.

Tool Pants - any idea if the 2006's have the same rearview? (my guess is .. yes)
