Offer the Box/Cay base thru TT in the 50 to 80 price range. Raise the price on the 911 and keep it, make everybody happy. I just cant see how offering a better design at a more realistic price will be the end of Porsche. Maybe they just dont want to work holidays and weekends.
All valid points and in a perfect Porsche world it might happen, but lets take a step back for a moment.

Porsche as a company today pretty much makes very calculated and researched decisions much to the chagrin of the true hard core enthusiast, and I believe for now Porsche execs think they have found a winning combination.....whether it holds up in the long run or not. They have two of the best sports cars on the road with the Boxster & 911, and the Cayman will most likely make it three. They now have an SUV and will target the Luxo 4 door sedan market next......maybe even an upscale luxo coupe to follow.

Back to the Cayman. Is the mid-engine design superior to the 911......without a doubt. Are they willing to start releasing lots of variants of the Cayman??......they have publicly stated that variants will come (as it has been very successful for the 911), but as with any other Porsche lineup......they will all be timed accordingly and thoroughly thought out in terms of image, sales, profit, etc........it won't be like flood gates are opened with CS/RS/Turbo/Base model Caymans flowing freely. Just won't happen no matter how much people cry about it. Remember, the Porsche sports car enthusiast is not the only direction Porsche is thinking of and spending R&D money on right now.

While this first version of the Cayman may be the start of the future direction of Porsche it will happen over a matter of many years and model revisions, no huge giant steps IMO. That's just not the Porsche philosophy right now. Look how long it took them to bring the Cayman out.......about 9 years after they already had the platform for it.
