Overall, I like it. Nice alternative to what is out there... the fog lights, I will need more time to like the placement of those... 58K 295hp... not bad at all.

I've looked at everything I could find and I'm still not in love. As always, its the first person impression that's the most important and that will have to wait awhile. But for now, I'd say its a B- or so, at least for me.

Looks better than I figured it would from the spy shots.

Is 59K the confirmed US price???? Given the current exchange rate, that's less than what I see some 2003 Boxsters go for here in Sweden, and it's less than I paid for my 14 year old 928 in Denmark 4 years ago. Hmmm...

Not bad, though I'm sure it won't be anyway near that once they show up in showrooms around here.

Honestly, I wish I didn't need my 911s rear seating for my kids.

The Cayman may be the sexiest Porsche yet.

For me, the first impression is that it's a lithe design, almost minimalist save the the slightly fussy driving light and intake treatments.

The fact that it pays homage to the 904 Carrera (one of my favorite Porsche designs of all time) plays well emotionally. This is a car that I can see owning as the replacement for my track prepared E36 M3 as the next dual purpose toy for the streets and circuits, while not numbing my back with the coil over suspension (not yet anyway...) currently on my M3 when driving on the streets.

This throws an interesting wrench to my current shopping list as I was looking for a 997S versus other candidates (Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Maserati GranSport). All 3 have much higher sticker prices than the Cayman S (997S priced at over $96K); but I also suspect that per standard Porsche practice, a nicely optioned Cayman S will likely be around $70K and nowhere near the $59K base price.

Then there is be the exclusivity issue: I suspect that here in the metro NY/northern NJ area, there will be a TON of these Cayman S running around within months... and possibly even outnumbering the E46 M3s that are currently out there. The 997S offers a higher level of exclusivity...and the Aston Martin & Maserati even more so. IMHO the Cayman S looks every ounce a Porsche (hey, I used to have a 944 Turbo...) and I'm quite certain that it will have a very HIGH and addictive level of driving pleasure and quality...but the exclusivity is a consideration for some in this segment, especially buying something as special as a Porsche.

It's definitely on my short list and I'll wait until I've had a chance to see it and drive it before deciding if it remains on that list.
