Too early for owner testimonials. The press reviews are great across the board. Just do it man. Drop the top, grip it and rip it.

Yup, it's too early. And more than likely you're going to get comments from people who are still in a honeymoon period with their totally new car. Best review I've seen came from Road and Track, believe it or not. Here's a link: Best all around sports car

Of course, the C6 won. This is Road and Track magazine afterall. But, read between the lines, do your own math, and check what the editors themselves would choose to take home with them.

colm,
the boxster mid engine approach should actually be evolved above the 911. like a stradale, the handling is better than a 911 by design...

imagine a boxster S with a gt3 engine....

mike schatz and i contemplated dropping a 3.6 in the old boxster s a few years ago... maybe i'll try the GT3 engine this time

as a 2 seat commuter, it has big trunks for Wiley's soccer gear.

The Boxster is a great car and largely underrated by old 911 diehards. Watch that Cayman come into life and sweep away the rear engine platform. Watt, did you buy a new or slightly used car? What color?

I'd love to see a GT3 engine in either the Boxster S or the Cayman. Is it even possible? I heard people have dropped in 3.6L 996 engine/trannys into the 986 without too much trouble.

Anything is possible given the cost is spent. But, no need for a GT3 engine for those cars to perform. In fact, the Cayman will eventually come with different engine versions to fit everyone's needs.

midnight/metropole top/sand

i bought slightly used [actually driven by a Porsche exec of my long acquaintance], but untitled because it was the only car i found with PASM and sport.

Since you have owned several models it would be nice to read your take on the new S. When you have some seat time.

Default great thread

Hi all,
This is a great thread as I'm seriously considering a new '-05 S. The price point is steep relative to hp offered vs. other cars. I know, I know...this is a mid engine Porsche with race proven provenance from the 550. *gulp* for roughly 62k (base + prem. leather + xenon's + tax here in atlanta area) vs. a new '05 C6-Z06.

2005 Box s were plentiful at 3-5 off window new when i looked but PASM is hard to find. i looked at an artic 57 car that was available at 52 which aint too bad, not a car that really needs $$$$ options. mayvbe you can find a 54 stripper for 49.

i also have ordered some z06's. you can actually own a new z06 and a box s for say 117 or slightly over a gt3, used gt2 whatever...

as for the coxster, i mean the gay man, that could be the mid engine ticket... in a LW RS version... but the photos i have seen are hideous:

thanks for the reply watts. i must admit that I have yet to drive the Boxster. Have a little '00 328i that has been a ton of fun... considering nuerous cars but it boils down to getting a car that I've yet to own....ie Boxster or Z06. 2 totally different cars. On paper the Z is much more bang for the buck. Most of my friends have told me I'm out and out nutz for ordering a Box S for 60 or so...ie, buy a used 993, ps9's and wheels and call it a day.. I have a funny thing for warranties-i tend to like them since I drive the snot out of my vehicles. I'd love to have a 987 by late Sept...gives me about 2 mos to decide on one as they're quoting 12-14weeks to spec one. regards,

wahoo
