Default Ignition Map RON Dependent

I took a drive in my 987.2 Boxster yesterday with an Autel MX808 connected to the OBD port. I was mainly curious about temperatures, but found something interesting under Knock Control.
I was seeing among the measurements "Ignition Map RON Dependent" followed by a value of 0 or 1. That digit switched from time to time.

I understand knock and the octane/timing relationship, but can someone tell me what I'm looking at here?

I normally run 91 octane (AKI) ethanol free, and was seeing up to about 6 degrees of ignition retard during moderate acceleration in 5th gear.
I refilled with 94 octane E-10, and the timing retard seemed to drop to the 2-4 degree range. Not scientific, but an interesting observation.

These engines are designed to operate optimally with 98 RON fuel. If a lower RON fuel is used, the ECU delays ignition to avoid self-detonation.
