I had an oil analysis done on my 987.1 2.7L cayman (2006) with about 127k km done. I ran the oil for 8250km.
I had nothing bad to say about performance of the engine, but wanted to get some insights. I did have to replace the AOS while this oil was in the engine. But otherwise no issues or noises.
Oil consumption was 0.75L on 8250km to my recollection. But it never got below the minimum oil indication.
The company that did the analysis remarks that viscosity is low, but it seems comparable to other reports for 5W40.
Comparing to other reports it seems iron content is quite high on my car. Averages I find online are about 9. I'll monitor it for sure. Other wearables look fine. Any further input is always appreciated. Cheers.

Molybdenum is really low at 66ppm. Moly content in new top shelf oil is 90-100 ppm average WITH the exception of Driven DT40 5W-40 OIL. My Molyb ppm on my last oil change was 553 ppm's. Moly b and Zink, ZDDP is essential in combating Bore score....

I appreciate the answer. I use Mobil1. For Cayman S engines I agree the DT40 is better suited. For my own 2.7L I dont worry too much about bore score. Other oil analysis reports online are generally in the same ballpark of Molybdenium levels. Ive seen two slightly higher than 100ppm and only your report seems to be around 500ppm.

A40 spec oils will not essentially have Moly in them. The recipe for the spec does not allow it. That's why engine builders like Charles from LN, Lake Speed, & others call for non-spec oils that do contain Moly.
ZDDP doesn't bond to aluminum hence it doesn't help our engines. ZDDP needs a ferrous material to bond to. Moly however, does bond to Aluminum, hence why moly is super important in our Boxsters, Caymans, Cayenne, Panamera.... due to all of these engines being raw aluminum with silicon impregnated in the aluminum.
As an aside from the oil question, for MY2006, I am pretty sure only a 3.4 engine was offered in the Cayman. First base Cayman was 2007.
perhaps US ONLY???

So for a newbie to owning a 987.1 S, what oil should one be using to help eliminate the potential of Bore Scoring? I am sure there are a million threads, I used to own Harley Davidson's for many years and the oil threads on the forums were endless.
