Default Catastrophic Tiptronic Damage

I'm amazed the car drove at all.

Quick background: project car with blown engine. Engine replaced, car stalled when coming to a stop. Replaced torque converter, car no longer stalled when coming to a stop, but had no 4th gear (engine would over-rev and car would go into limp mode). Replaced valve body but saw some strange brass looking stuff was all over the pan during the valve body work. Thought it was clutch material but (foolishly) hoped for the best. No change to shifting behavior. Re-assessed material in pan and decided it must be clutch material. That was so, so wrong.

Feast your eyes:

All the brass is from the bushing up near the torque converter. Work will continue once the new parts arrive.

Cheers

This is just conjecture but given that this project car started due to a failed something in the engine (not yet determined), this is the other part of the equation from when that happened.

Thankfully, parts are on the way and, crazily enough, the rest of the transmission looks pristine. Strange days.

Cheers
