Default 987.2 Exhaust question

I’ve read forums up and down and can’t make sense of something. What is the little pipe circled in red? I’m not fully familiar with how exhausts work (been reading more about them lately), but seems like 987.2 is more complex than most. Why are there two exits from what I assume is the resonator. My ultimate goal with learning more about this is 1) curiosity and interest, 2) seeing if an option exists with welding in an electronic on/off valve to go from stock to straight pipe.

thanks in advance!

There is a good post on the PSE exhaust and people modifying there OEM exhaust like Carnwal does. The little pipe does two things it is an acoustic tune and a small pressure relief. This I believe was done on the .2 exhaust because we do not have the secondary cat.

So in pursuit of a DIY on/off straight pipe exhaust, is the opportunity to just connect the two big tubes in the center chamber with a valve? Am I really oversimplifying this? Haha

Yep, I’ve read this thread extensively. This applies to a 987.2 with PSE. Mine doesn’t have the PSE, so the internals look very different. Trying to take learnings from this and apply it to the basic exhaust.

So you are talking something like this with a butterfly valve added?

Yes! But the chambers still in place, right?
