I’ve recently become the proud owner of a 987.1 S
A po has installed a Pioneer unit.
I’d like to upgrade to something with Apple Car play (mainly for maps etc - the aural entertainment in this car comes from the rear.)
The local mechanic, not Porsche specialist, said the current one (being non genuine) is throwing up lots of fault codes (SnapOn OBII scanner)
I understand there maybe a Porsche upgrade available, but likelihood expensive and potentially not as good as the Kenwood recommendation of the local HiFi specialist.
1. Any details of the Porsche one?
2. Any info on weather the “fault codes” are anything but a trivial annoyance?
I’ll probably get a reverse camera, and front/rear dash cams at the same time if anyone has any comments on them. Good/bad/ugly
As always- thanks

How much do you want to spend?

What kind of codes is your mechanic seeing? Lots of people change the stereo without any adverse effects.
If you don’t have one, I recommend getting a basic Bluetooth OBD reader that you can connect to your phone. It may not give you all the Porsche specific stuff, but it’s a good start and will show you any major issues. For a bigger outlay consider something like the Foxwell that will give you much more access to the various systems.

Yes, it will give codes if you don't have the dealer or someone with software to program the old radio out of the car. The only one to see the codes will be someone with a good scanner. They are nothing to worry about.
Since the old owner installed an after market radio, they already did most of the work of wiring in the speakers to a normal amp. The original radio and amp was fiber-optic. You should have a pretty easy time installing any radio you want.

It goes in Monday for the new unit. (And reverse/dash cameras)
I think the quote included the converters from the fiber optic etc, so I’ll be sure to remind them that those adaptor cables are likely in place.

Take a look at this thread and android head unit, I'm purchasing it myself over other options for the more OEM look and volume **** when compared to other android head units, still has wireless CarPlay and Auto. Not sure if your getting a standard android unit or the PCM+.
