Auuuugh, there are so many conflicting answers on this topic. I'm in the US and have a 2006 Boxster. It's so confusing trying to read up on this topic but I'm looking to know if I have the larger non-serviceable IMS or the smaller serviceable IMS.
This is my engine serial number M96/2561601641
Vinanalytics suggests a prod month of 2005-07-01.
I thought it would have the larger bearing, but I also thought it would have the M97 engine. With the M96 I'm not sure and it's giving me quite a bit of worry. I know the larger bearing has a much lower failure rate and if I have that I will be significantly less concerned. Especially with only a Base model.

I did my reserch 7 yrs ago when I got my 987.1 S. I also remember from watching 4-Part PCA videos on this subject, that the base engines in caymans and Boxter have an even smaller chance of failure.
Most of what I know is based on the 3.4L engine..
"To determine if your M97 engine has the improved IMS, you will need to check your engine number.
if the engine number is 68509790 and below, unfortunately it still has the smaller removable IMS bearing.
if the engine number is 68509791 and above, it will have the new large single row IMS. The IMS cover also has the 22mm nut.";
From LN :
I would rather have the single row pre-late 2005 IMS because its easier and far less cheaper to swap it out for the LN bearing.

Hopes this helps

From LN :
- 2005 Porsche Boxster 987 - Single Row IMS Bearing (some late 2005 builds may have the larger, non-serviceable IMS bearing)

I'm not sure what information to take from that website, as it doesn't seem to list my M96.25 engine there
