What's the general consensus on this forum and platform when it comes to tuning? Have you tuned your engine and/or transmission? If you did, why did you do it, and if you didn't, what's holding you back?
We've been tuning Porsches for over 20 years at APR. You can see a list of Porsche Models we tune here. It's not all of them, but a good chunk of models. The software we have is also on sale until the end of October right now.
When it comes to some of the other brands we tune, some of the more high end models, like the Audi RS6 and the Audi RS3 are heavily tuned. On the RS3 front it's hard to find one that isn't tuned. We see the same on some Porsche models, but on others it seems some are hesitant.
So, what's your take on tuning?

Tempted to add a tune to my 2.9... but just haven't done it yet. I've done my other cars tho. Really wonder how much I'd feel it in the seat of my pants.
I'm gonna guess it's a type 3 VW

99.99999% of all people on this forum can't drive their car at the limit bone stock. They can't even come close. Period. I'm one of these people. Until I do a ton more track days and really learn how to drive my car, personally I'm not adding more power into the equation.

@Arin@APR I have not yet tuned my 987.2, though I am likely to.
What's the best way for a consumer to evaluate the claims made by tuners for our cars?
I primarily use my car for weekend driving and occasional HPDE. I currently have an aftermarket exhaust, but no other mods.
I would certainly consider APR, FVD, and others. In your view, what objective criteria should I be looking at to identify what's best for my car and my use-case?

not planning on tuning my 2.9. Keeping it stock for autocross.
My Elise was way past stock in the suspension department I put on a Torque 200 tune because the Lotus factory tune is garbage in the midrange.
The Cayman 2.9 PDK tune does not seem to be garbage anywhere.
After driving around taking pictures at Road America I am not lowering the Cayman either. Seems odd since I have driven the lowered Elise there.

I did a Sprint Booster, Carnewal rear section modification, Carnewal 200 cell manifolds/OE SSK short shifter install and an Softronic tune on my 2.9 Boxster in that order. I’m pretty happy.

I have a 2010 Cayman S that is stock. I have thought about a tune for the PDK, as it sometimes is slow on the 1-2 shift and I would like a firmer shift under full throttle. At this point I haven't really done any investigation into PDK tunes.
