Default Steering Wheel Upgrade

I recently purchased a 2005 Boxster 987.1 I upgraded the radio to the Porsche PCCM+. I would like to replace the steering wheel with one that has the volume and phone controls. The transmission is 5 speed manual. The question, is the required wiring already in the car for the controls, or do I have to purchase an additional kit to modify the steering column wiring that ties into the head unit. And then do I have to have it coded by a dealership.

Thanks for listening.

I can answer part of your question! I installed this plain, no button wheel, in my ‘06 and can tell you that just to make the horn work it needs to go to a dealer to have it programmed! They charged me 1 hour for the labor.

Late spec wheel in a 987.1, but after market headunit, coded via a Foxwell

My 06 Boxster S that was recently crashed and I'm now parting out has the multi function wheel and is available to buy. I have the Sand beige interior. I can't answer the wiring question but given the "recode" comments below sounds like the wiring is universal across the models. My wheel is for the triangular airbag (mine was blown in the accident).

Here’s a brief update on my research. first I think the thread got hijacked to discussion related to a 997. What I’ve learned is that I am able to purchase all the controls for my current steering wheel, but will need to add the multi function control module to integrate into my Porsche PCCM. well, I am not certain of is whether or not I need a new clock ring. I will need the following:

left steering wheel switches $ 250
right steering wheel switches $250
Steering wheel multifunction control module $312
wiring harness to the module $145

can someone answer the question as to whether or not a new clock spring is needed?

thanks

I didn't need a new clock spring. I just needed to match the steering wheel can bus module to the steering wheel, and then code it.

You may get away with the buttons, and coding.

Still a little confused. In addition to the switches needed and wiring harness for them, I know I have to purchase the multifunction control module but there is mention of another steering wheel control module. I am going from a non function wheel to a function wheel in Sand Beige... I might interested in the steering wheel you posted a picture of. So it sounds like I will need the MFSW control module and wiring harness and switches, but still not sure if there is another module needed to purchase. And lastly, if going from a non function wheel to a function wheel, why would I not need a new clock spring.

I had a non button triangle wheel,
I've now got a later wheel with buttons.

I needed a new control unit, only because i had a newer wheel. I then needed to code the control unit to the new wheel options.

I didn't change the clock spring.

But I also had an after market headunit, and needed another interface box to get the canbus talking to the headunit.

My thread

After researching and deciding the parts you would require, just let me know. If you already have the triangle wheel and its in good condition then I would be happy to sell you just the buttons/module/loom etc.
If I have time over the next couple of days I'll remove my steering wheel and see what the part number is on my clock spring. That should settle the debate...

Cheers,
Julian
