Agreed. I told the wifey I should just buy a little shelf and put it on display.

the numeric unit is CNC'd out of a billet of aluminum. that CAE one looks to be fashioned from a welded or simply bent stamping. i would go with the numeric regardless of whether or not they respond to emails and phone calls. installation is about as easy as it gets.

but to be honest, just about anything is an improvement over the injection molded plastic OEM design.

Finally finished all the maintenance on the intake side - new gaskets, sleeves, air oil separator, air filter, plus cleaned all the oil build up everywhere, even cleaned the MAF sensor because why not. This 100% took more time and was more work than I was expecting. The positive side to this is, I assume my projects will take longer overall, which give me more time to work on her. Went on a test drive and everything seemed ok. When she got to temp decided to give her the beans. She's running pretty good for a super high mileage base model. It's not as S, and is not fast by any stretch of the imagination, but she's not as slow as I remembered.

The suspension is pretty sloppy, I'm guessing a lot of it is old and tired. I also suspect a bad wheel bearing somewhere, but I need to jack the car up and check.

To Do:
Add garage door insulation and air flow. It's freaking hot in the garage!
belt and pulleys
water pump, themostat - might do third radiator since I'm in there anyways
plugs and ignition coils
Android headunit with 360 cams
CAE Shifter

Oh my dear word!! That is absolutely stunning. I am speechless. I have the Numeric, but now I feel as though I made a terrible mistake...

I apologize for being greedy but is there any chance that you can share your thoughts on this unit once you get it installed? My Numeric shifter may be headed for FB Marketplace.

Will do.

My only pause is that I still have the OEM cables. I haven’t heard much in terms of 5 speed cables breaking, but I’m sure there’s some slop after all these years. I’ll install it as is and see how it feels, but I do want to add some better cables for peace of mind.

Thank you SIR! When I switched to the Numeric shifter, I also changed the cables to the Numeric ones. I think that you're wise to consider new cables too. I like how the entire Numeric system feels, but I love the placement of this CAE unit, as well as the fact that it has a reverse lock-out ring (my feeling is that it's a necessity for the track).

I'm so excited by your post that I sent an email to CAE hours ago. I've already made up my mind to buy it but would still love to hear your feedback. (I'm hoping that they respond and can ship it to me - fingers crossed.)

From my understanding the numeric cables need to be modified in order to work with the CAE shifter. I was hoping to try it but the since numeric ghosted me, I decided to file a chargeback. Not sure if any shops keep numeric inventory or they drop ship from numeric directly, but if I find a set, I would be interested in picking them up.

You may already know this but Fabspeed sells the Numeric Racing shift cables - https://www.fabspeed.com/porsche/box...?sort=priceasc

Thank you for the heads-up on the modifications that might be necessary. I sent CAE a pic of the ends of the Numeric shifter cables and asked what modifications they thought would be needed. They already replied that they can ship via DHL...just waiting for the reply on the mod issue. They could read my broken German!!

Thanks again for posting this in the first place! This will solve the only shortcoming that I perceive with my 987.2. I could barely sleep last night I'm so excited (no sarcasm).

I emailed a bunch of vendors for the cables, hopefully someone stocks them. A couple of them said they ship direct from numeric so I’m still SOL.

If it’s the type of DHL shipping that I got, then you’ll get it in 4 days. Ridiculous! I did have a pay import duties.

im excited for you! Twinsies!

I'm sorry to hear that. I should have figured that. Best of luck to you in your search!

Yes - CAE said it would be at my door in 72 hours...unreal!!!!!

Thank you!

OH - and great job on the build so far! Wish mine was black.

Following! Also about to receive the same AliExpress Android + MOST unit, waiting to see how easy/difficult the 4-camera setup is to rig up before attempting it.

@Dietrich72

I have no baseline except for stock, but holy **** this is good. Stock cables feel good, but I wouldn’t mind something a little tighter. Shifts feel amazing.

Gotta button everything back up and go for a drive!
