I'm not sure the 18s should increase the gap that much. Regardless of wheel size, the outer tire diameter shouldn't change much.
You sure you have the right tires on both of those wheels? Or if you just lowered the car after putting them on, the suspension may be up on it's tip toes...roll it back and forth a bit to let it settle.

I have no basis for comparison. According to the window sticker, my 987.2 Cayman 2.9 came new with ' 18" Cayman S II wheel ' for 1,235 dollars. I do not know the significance of the II in the designation but they look just like the wheels in your photo.
