While working on the engine is a PITA, Porsche did think this through, the access panels are all in the right places. And worst case dropping the motor is not terribly difficult.

As far as electronics, once you study a little,, it all makes perfect sense and actually makes these cars easier to work on..

Here is a little inspiration: done in my garage, no lift required.

I had the full set of factory manuals for my '89 Merkur Scorpio. Many binders of fascinating reading, super well-thought out procedures, and quite an impressive car actually... still took so much longer than sitting back and watching a 20-min YouTube.

BTW - Just changed my worn climate control buttons out today by using, you guessed it, YouTube videos.

No kidding. I wish the interwebs would have been around all those years I owned old Alfa's...would have saved me a sh!tload of money.

That helps a lot, yes. You do need a few extensions but it's still easier to access than the filters on most other cars I've worked on.

I mean, overall the car's pretty well thought out from a maintenance standpoint. The access issues are inherent to a mid-engine, so comparing it to something like a Golf where the plugs are *right there* isn't really fair. But regardless, nothing on the 987 is really rocket science if you've worked on cars before and have the service manual and proper tools.

The one annoying oversight I can think of is having to remove the underbelly gravel plate to drain the manual transmission, which involves removing the rear suspension supports and is kind of a PITA for such a simple job. The fix for this is to get a hole saw and drill the access opening that Porsche should've put there.

Yes absolutely. Have had mine since 07 and servicing since the beginning. Enjoy!
