Default TPMS Menu Has Disappeared

Purchased my 2010 CS about a year ago and it has an FVD engine and PDK tune on it. A few months back the PDK died, so I had a factory rebuilt unit installed.

The very competent race shop that did the install got it in but admitted they had a challenge being able to communicate with the car in order to do the PDK calibration, but eventually got it worked out.

I didn’t notice until a few days later that my TPMS menu had disappeared from the cluster. Long story short, the car has now been to two other shops, who have both confirmed the coding is all correct, but there’s still no TPMS menu. When I start the car, I get the red ! with a message to update my tire settings, so the car still knows it has TPMS - there’s just no menu and when I scroll through the display the page that used to display the pressure for each tire isn’t there.

The last shop thinks the gauge cluster needs to be replaced, as all the systems are working fine, no errors, etc. I’m wondering if reuploading the FVD file that’s on the MyGenius that came with the car is a good idea at this point?

Welcome any other thoughts!

This will be of no help to you but, after my new engine was installed, I also lost the menu. Luckily for me, the ecu isn't aware of the system being in place so no red.

IMO, the entity that told you the cluster might need replacing was guessing...and it would very, very expensive to do that. i would be thinking the guys that "had trouble" re-installing your tune were responsible, but you'll probably have to take it to a real porsche service center, unfortunately, and have the cluster software redone. of course it's possible that it may be necessary to then have your "tune guys" have a second shot at doing it right.

personally, i would just as soon have the TPMS disabled on my car... but not if it involved a bunch of warning notices flashing in my face every time i started the car.

At least I’m not alone. I asked if they could remove the setting completely as a plan B but no dice there either. :/

I’ll agree with the guy above and, as much as I hate to do it, take it to a dealership and see if they can code it out with their advanced software. You just know that they’re going to attempt to empty your wallet doing so though.

i've tried... dealers nor independent shops will remove it, anymore than they would remove airbags or seatbelts. it's a federal law that mandated that they be there in the first place. they risk being fined or worse if found doing something like that.

It's a long shot but if the TPMS isn't showing in the cluster, just unplug the control unit in the frunk, clear codes and you may be good to go if you're ok without it. Seems these cars can have things coded out but if the item is still plugged in it will throw the fault code.

Get a Foxwell scanner, and you can disable it yourself. Probably good to have that scanner anyway, as it can help you with various things in the future as well... and is usually lower cost than dealing with a dealer at all.

Ugh, TPMS is the one single biggest time waster and PITA at the shop. I was hoping to read this and hear that the car didn't know it had tpms. I have a 2006 and back then it was still an option, not a US federal requirement. If the car is ever at a dealer I'm going to see if they can program it out.

I value the TPMS system. When tracking my GT3 that display is always on. One particular time while at the track I got a puncture, the TPMS lite up as my tire went to zero. Just take the car to a Porsche dealer and have them put their PIWIS on it.

It took my German car specialist shop almost a week but they basically reprogrammed the whole damn car setting by setting to get it back. The guy did tell me that if i have the issue again he'd be able to fix it much faster next time. If you'd like to have your shop give my guy a call he is the Porsche guy at Luckor Auto Luckor Auto on google maps. I think his name was James or Jason.

I have the same issue and contacted the referenced location but it was just an auto dealer. Can you please reconfirm.
