Looking at a salvaged 2006 boxster S to race in the 24 hours of Lemons. We have experience rebuilding cars like this and we have our own welding equipment. I would like info on the front subframe of these cars. Is it aluminum? Is the high strength steel weldable? The car would be stripped for racing and doesn’t need to look pretty.

Do a search for the factory service manual. I think there is a copy on here somewhere (or maybe Planet9). It has detailed instructions for replacing all of the components including which can be straightened vs. not, welding procedures, etc.
