Default New 987.2 Boxster Base owner

Hey, all. I just purchased a 2009 base from a fellow PCA member (unfortunately MA RMV can't get me plates until Wednesday so it's sitting in my driveway instead of being driven ). I also own a 2009 C2S Cab. I was looking for something I could drive a little harder on normal roads without getting myself into trouble quite as quickly. The 997.2 is a great vehicle but at the same time the one I own is in pristine condition and it gives me a bit of anxiety to drive it so I was looking to reduce my anxiety and still get the P-car experience so I'm now the owner of an 83k mile 2.9L Boxster. I was originally looking at 986S cars because a friend had bought one and it piqued my interest. I didn't expect that the premium to jump to a 987.2 base would be as little as it was so I wasn't even looking. Then a thread I started in the 997 forum got me thinking and I found the listing on PCA Mart and went for it. So here I am...

So far it seems like the 987.2 Boxster/Cayman, particularly the 2.9L, is pretty under the radar in P-car land. The prices I'm seeing on the 2.9L cars makes them a pretty good bargain in today's used sports car landscape. Of course, now that I have the car I'm going deep on all the mods I can do lol. If I can handle it I'm going to drive the car for a few months before I really start spending on it. The car is as close to un-optioned as you can get. The two things that jump out at me right away as potential upgrades are the shifter and wheels. The shifting isn't nearly as nice as my 997 with OEM "sport shifter" and the car came with base 17" wheels. I'll probably go to 18 or 19 but haven't decided yet. And then there's the stereo...(non-Bose, thankfully)

Looking forward to learning more about this little corner of the Rennlist community!

Congrats! I joined the Porsche family a year ago with a base 2009 Cayman, and have had a blast, and learned a lot in the past year.

i had a similar problem with my aston martin vantage. too nice to use on occasion. so i bought a 2007 base cayman. trouble is the damned thing is so nice to drive and so lovely that i'm starting to have the same feelings about it.

soooo, sergi and i are in negotiation now on a used car (not a sports car) and are within 100 dollars. he's claiming he has to sell it to finance his child's surgery...whatever... i think he's about to crack and i may soon be the new owner of a 2012 Lada. wish me luck!

Congrats on your new Boxster! The 2.9 cars are great for just driving the heck out of. I’ve had mine for a year now and still every time I get back from a drive I’m sad to get out.

Congrats and I couldn't agree more on the 2.9L being a hidden gem and one of the most undervalued Porsche sports cars at the moment.

I'm poking around at potential performance upgrades...are these numbers legit?

https://www.fvd.net/us-en/FVD9872000...tq-street.html

20hp, 19ft-lb with exhaust and tune?

https://www.fvd.net/de-en/FVD9872000...-tq-sport.html

28hp, 31ft-lb with exhaust, headers and tune?

I'm really looking to make the car sound awesome and get whatever power I can in the process. I would've just bought an S if I wanted the power.
