Default Will a low mileage Cayman show bore scoring?

Looking at low mileage Cayman (base 2.7). It has under 14,000 miles on it.

At this age and with that low miles, will it show bore scoring in an inspection?

Any way to determine if this will occur in the future?

Base models have not been known at all to have bore scoring, regardless of miles.

No need to worry about bore scoring in the base model. Completely different engine.

I replied to your other thread so forgive the redundancy.

Wonder why the 2.7L base model 987 Boxster/Cayman don't suffer from bore scoring? It's because of the piston composition. Porsche chose a cast piston in the base model. The S model with forged pistons has the problem.

Of course, that's not the only variable in the bore scoring equation, but it's the one that is significant in the Boxster/Cayman M9X engines.

It's the coating on the forged pistons that is the problem. There is endless debate on the problem, here and elsewhere online about the mechanisms behind the problem. I don't want to mitigate the problem, and I hope I don't jinx myself here, because the problem is real, but I also don't think it is as common as some would have you believe.

I wonder if anyone has done a statistical analysis of how many engines are impacted (Cayman and 911)?

Actually, it is more of an equation of many variables that lead to the sum of bore scoring as Jake Raby notes in Part 2 of his Rennvision series on YouTube, but one of the key differences between the Boxster/Cayman base M9X engine and the S model BoxsterCayman S M9X engines is the pistons composition.

The early skirt coatings called Ferrostan were more durable than the successor called Ferroprint.
